In His Eyes is a beautifully written love story that highlights that those with a "diability" are only limited by their own interpretation of the confines imposed by that "disability". Katie and Trace must navigate their way thru plenty of obstacles to find their way to true love. Mrs Henderson's storyline kept me engaged from the first page to the end. Love the characters, the horses, the scenery. An easy read in one sitting. Looking forward to reading more in this series.
The story of Katie Montgomery and Trace Hawley is one for the ages. A true western romance in the best sense. Couldn't put it down from first page to last. Wondering if and how they would manage to overcome Katie's mother Chantal Sinclair's schemes and recognize their love for each other kept me interested. Both Katie and Trace are the kind of characters every western romance should have. Don't skip this book.
The story of Trace and Katie's romance is about love,hope and faith. The author created characters with strength and compassion. I loved the fact that Katie was a strong woman inspite of her disability . Trace was a equally strong character, and it's good to read about a real man instead of some billionaire playboy romantic character with no real life emotions or value. CONGRATULATIONS to Peggy Henderson on giving the readers a true romance with characters of value .
A tough one to review adequately without revealing spoilers. Katherine Montgomery (Katie) is mysteriously summoned back to her home ranch after a decade in New York. She is dealing with not one major blemish but two. Trace Hawley, the son of the ranch foreman, has also been charged with fulfilling a promise from the dying owner of the ranch and it definitely involves Katie. Because of a profound disability, Katie has been sheltered for the past ten years but Trace no longer sees the young girl who followed him around pestering him but a beautiful young woman. The story plot increases with complexity, intensity, and romance right up to its dramatic conclusion. Heroic Trace sees right past Katie's disability, unlike everyone else, which gives Katie confidence in resuming the life she once loved on the ranch. This is a fine story, full of heart and hope.
OK, first a disclaimer - Peggy Henderson is one of my favorite authors! That's because she writes in an engaging manner. The story never drags, it's edited well, it has just enough suspense to keep turning the page, but not enough to cause undue stress in the reader, and it's a clean read. I don't have to worry about anything explicit or foul mouthed.
For this particular story, you can read some of the other reviews for the general plot. I want to point out the various themes that I found.
There's overcoming obstacles - Katie has suffered a tremendous loss in her life, yet she perseveres in spite of her personal tragedy. She also exhibits an attitude of forgiveness. Even though she understands the truth of what has happened to her and who was responsible, she does not seek revenge, nor does she get angry. She feels pity and sorrow for the person because she knows that they are only hurting themselves.
Trace has much that he regrets in his life, yet he works toward forgiving himself and seeking the wellbeing of others he loves and justice for those who are against him. He never seeks revenge. He's never mean spirited and his past has taught him to be patient.
Finally, I found the main characters mature. It seems odd to say that, but a lot of books are written today with very immature characters. They yell, throw temper tantrums, seek revenge, tell lies, etc. Yes, there is one character who does some screaming, but that's to create that character's personality profile. It was refreshing to read about normal, mature adults who were overcoming significant obstacles and how they dealt with them in a logical, responsible manner. They took ownership of their lives and didn't live in blame of others. They moved on from the tragedy and built a new future in spite of the past.

I loved this book and enjoyed every last minute of it. Katherine and Trace were both over-comers in their own ways and made for really good people to read about. It didn't take long to get drawn into their story and to pull for them. The emotion of what Katherine has gone through comes through clearly, as does the avarice and coldness of her mother. Wilma, is also another good secondary character. At first I wasn't so sure that she had Katherine's best interests at heart. But as I kept reading, who she really is shines through which is good because I didn't like her at first. There is action and twists and turns to the story before Katherine gets her HEA.
Only 5 stars, and I would have given 10! After the first chapter, I became addicted to this book. I enjoy reading books set in this time period. The main male character was endearing from the beginning until the end. Horses are another great love of mine, and the characters live at a ranch that breeds horses. The content put me on the edge of my seat at times. Its also a clean mystery and romance with well liked and disliked characters. I'm hooked on Peggy Henderson as a favorite new actor to follow to begin reading all of her previously published and new books when they become available. Peggy, you have a new fan!
