Through Sam’s eyes we experience several decades of social liberation movements, especially in the gay community. A series of colorful settings reveals an array of vibrant characters such as “Mrs. B,” a black female mentor who launches him on a path of self-discovery in 1960s Los Angeles. In the spirit of On The Road, Forest Gump, and Siddhartha, he takes us on a gritty, humor-filled, and heartfelt journey.

I loved reading this book from start to finish. It's an amazing story about a man named Sam who despite many perils that challenge his health and emotional well being, fights on. Trying to figure out some big questions, he doesn't give up on himself and continues to reach out as we watch him create his own path that he unknowingly is on. I can't help but think Sam has an angel looking out for him with all the trials he encounters. I believe The Longer Road Home will help readers struggling with their own similar issues.Product details

An enlightment of the history of the gay community. Also, Sam deals with other struggles with his family and musical career. Sam shows reat courage and humor in finally having a fulfilling life. An inspiring and fun read.

What a brilliant and touching narration of complex life issues painted softly over a Forest Gump like presence scattered throughout recent American history. Really enjoyed the read!
This fascinating tale takes us through the turbulent life of Sam Freberg and his quest to find himself. The book has as many twists and turns as a cross country bike trek, leading us on a journey of disappointment, life threatening illness, discovery and enlightenment. Sam's moving story shows how a path filled with mountains of obstacles can become a life of redemption.
This is a wonderful book. It is a novel that causes one to look at his or her own life. Sam's story is unique, but his desire to live a full and meaningful life despite his demons and trials reminds us that we all have our own demons and trials to deal with and seek to overcome.
On a simpler plane, it is a gripping story, asking the reader to find out how Sam is progressing on each step of his journey in a life of
recovery. Sam's optimism despite many obstacles demonstrates the power and necessity of being positive.

Cat Cohen escorts his readers on a emotional and winding road through childhood traumas, self-discovery, substance and gambling abuse,and eventually personal redemption, sobriety and peace. The Longer Road Home is staged as an admonitory narrative that will keep you riveted and cheering--for an uncertain happy ending--until the last page.You'll find yourself alternatively shouting encouragements and crying as we're ushered through Sam's afflictions of the 60's and 70's (and 80's and 90's). This book is an inspirational blueprint of a life tested and saved.
