When the head of Lyncroft Unlimited vanishes in a plane crash, Annie Lyncroft is left holding the reins to a high tech startup she knows nothing about. After the search-and-rescue operation turns up empty and the company's creditors are at the door, Annie, determined to save her brother's legacy, turns to Lyncroft's major investor with a proposal he can't possibly refuse--marry her and take over the day to day operations of the company until Annie has learned enough to take over herself. Intrigued by her offer, Oliver Rain agrees on the spot. And immediately starts plotting his future with Annie--starting with moving her into his penthouse.

Wildest Hearts edition by Jayne Ann Krentz Romance eBooks

The heroine Annie was too much of a Mary Sue for me - too perfect. From the beginning she tells wealthy man Oliver how he needs to improve his communication skills. She treats him the way a mother would. She insists that he keep her involved in everything even though she is out of her league in his high tech business world. Annie owns a shop selling artsy and decorative things for the home.

The plot about Annie’s missing brother and some questionable things going on in his company was pretty good.

Oliver’s father took all the family’s money and left debts when Oliver was in college. Oliver wanted to be a botanist, but he left school and became a wealthy businessman, paying off his father’s debts and raising his siblings. Oliver has a reputation for being ruthless and dangerous. Annie is the sweetness who brings love to his life.

This story is what you’d expect from a 1992 Harlequin novel.

Wildest Hearts edition by Jayne Ann Krentz Romance eBooks Reviews

Talk about a cool as cucumber hero and a flighty but smart heroine. This book's a thousand times more interesting than 50 shades. But that's really not saying much, I guess. Really, read this book instead. I'm only making the comparison, as many seem to think that being a control freak is hot in a hero. This book makes that work so much better. Without the weird kinky factor. Don't worry, it's still pretty steamy. The plot is not too intense, so it makes for a really good light read. I've first read this book so many years ago and it's still as good today. It's on my keeper list and a solid "go to" book.

The book reads like a 90s Rom-Com movie. The little suspense mystery subplot isn't really meaty but it helps to set up the relationship between the H and H. I love JAK's dialogues. They can be really hilarious. And she knows how to make for a sigh worthy ending. Some of the scenarios may make you roll your eyes a bit, but it's all fun. I read romance novels to relax and I liken Ms. Krentz's books (in any of her pseudonyms) to a tall glass refreshing cool lemon iced tea.

You may also like her other titles like Trust Me, Family Man and so many more...
Oliver Rain is a 37-year-old, inscrutable, hard-nosed businessman who has supported his family of step-mother, twin step-brothers, and two sisters since his father deserted the family, stealing all their assets. This tragedy occurred when Oliver was only 21 years old, his half-brothers were toddlers, and his sisters teenagers. Oliver immediately surrendered his dream of being a botanical research scientist in order to recover the family's fortunes in the world of high finance that his father had occupied. Oliver is brilliant, sophisticated, loyal to his family's interests to a fault, and a complete introvert who trusts virtually no one. One of his few friends is technical wizard Daniel Lyncroft, older brother to kind, caring, and very quirky 29-year-old Annie Lyncroft, owner of a shop selling works of one-of-a-kind art that are as delightfully whimsical as Annie herself. When Daniel's plane goes down over the ocean, and he is presumed dead, Annie approaches Oliver and asks him to form a marriage of convenience with her to protect her brother's company. She and Daniel's pregnant fiance are convinced Daniel is still alive, and Annie desperately needs backup to hold onto Daniel's company until his return.

This classic, Krentz novel was originally published in 1993. It does not have as much of a suspense subplot to the main romance plot as later novels, but it does have a mystery--what happened to the heroine's brother? Is he actually dead? I also thought Krentz did a good job of not telegraphing the solution to the mystery.

This novel contains the very best of the attributes of a Krentz novel that draw me back again and again to her work a strong, honorable, reliable hero with a bit of darkness in his soul from the wounds of betrayal in his past; a quirky but equally strong and independent heroine with a warm heart and a smart mouth who is more than a match for the hero; sharp, witty repartee between the hero and heroine; important friend and family relationships creating subplots that significantly bolster the romance plot.

This book formed part of my keeper shelf for years, but recently I have been offloading paper books, because they are such a hassle to haul around, and replacing them little by little with ebook versions of them. This book was one of my first replacements, because it is one of my all-time favorite romances. The ebook edition is well designed and edited, making it easy to read. Ideally the price would be lower, but given what book it is, I was willing to pay the price the publisher asked.
"Annie are you by any chance proposing to me."

THE STORY When Annie Lyncroft's brother is lost and presumed dead in a plane crash, Annie does not want to accept his death. She needs someone to help save her brother's company. She turns to Oliver Rain and proposes a marriage of convenience until her brother's return. Oliver agrees but has another motive. He intends on making their marriage real because he wants Annie.

OPINION I love the characters of Oliver and Annie. Oliver is so puzzled by how Annie turns his life upside down. Annie is the catalyst that opens up Oliver's self-controlled world. The star of this story is the romance. The mystery itself was not that compelling for me. Things were resolved rather quickly without much suspense. Compared with Krentz's more recent efforts, this one is more romance than suspense.

WORTH MENTIONING Oliver is one of Krentz's unique heroes who has quirky interests but still is extremely successful at business.

FINAL DECISION I thought the mystery was rather pedestrian, but I liked the romance between Annie and Oliver. The interaction between the controlled Oliver and the energetic Annie always makes me smile.

CONNECTED BOOKS WILDEST HEARTS is a standalone.
